Description
Circa 16th -17th Centuries
Evolving from the Kettle Hat, the Morion was worn by early Spanish explorers and conquistadors during the 16th and early 17th centuries. It is characterized by the flat brim and a comb, or “crest, “running from front to back which helped deflect blows and strengthened the top. In later years, the crest was often exaggerated into a decorative feature. The Morion, though often associated with Spaniards, was also common among foot soldiers throughout Europe. Handcrafted in 18 gauge steel, with a fabric liner and chin strap. From Noble Armoury.
